Customer Reviews

Customer Review: “Another excellent pan to add to my Lodge collection. I have had other cast iron pots and pans and I gave them all away once my mom gave me my first Lodge frying pan for Christmas. This pan is utilitarian since you can use it to fry on the stovetop, broil and bake in the oven, roast in the bbq or over a campfire, and it fits perfectly into my airfryer. This 12” is the perfect size for all-around cooking needs. I use it primarily as a baking dish for casseroles and seating meat, but its thickness provides precision heat distribution to ensure food cooks evenly on the stovetop or open flame. It’s pre-seasoned so its ready to go out of the box and cleanup is a snap. In my opinion, Lodge makes the best pans for the best price.”

Customer Review: “I seriously don’t know how I ever cooked without this cast iron pan in my life! First of all, the dual handle design is wonderful—no more awkward wrist twisting trying to list a heavy skillet with one hand. The balance is perfect, and it makes transferring from stovetop to oven so much easier and safer. Whether I’m searing steaks, baking cornbread, roasting veggies, or making the perfect skillet cookie, this pan performs like a total champ! It heats up evenly, retains heat beautifully, and the results are always consistent and delicious. Bonus points? It’s LODGE, so you know it’s made in the USA and built to last for generations. Honestly, this is one of those pieces that feels like you’re investing your culinary legacy.”

Customer Reviews

Customer Review: “After I learned to season it quick like 7 times, and started using a brush and cup with a dap of oil on the side I kept around to wipe with oil when done, and learned to due to size I needed to have rag on edge of sink when dumping out water. Then I often heat up water in electric kettle to pour in when done cooking in order to not shock it. I find after all this that I actually do basically no scrubbing, just a bit of scraping with the metal spatula while the hot water is in it. And then I use a silicone handle on one side I had gotten and I want to get the other side for the silicone side to hold but I just use a pot holder for the other side, thicker one. But I find now that this is an ideal pan to cook everything and anything and many things. I just leave it on top of my stove for daily use.”

Customer Review: “I picked this up back in October, and it’s quickly become one of my most-used pans. I can see why it’s such a top seller. What I love: Built to last – this thing is solid. No worries about non-stick coatings wearing off or chemicals leaching. It’s pure, simple, durable iron. Great heat retention – once it’s hot, it stays hot. Perfect for getting a good sear on steak, crispy skin on chicken, or even baking cornbread. I’ve used it on the stovetop, in the oven, and on the grill—it handles it all. Natural non-stick with use – the factory seasoning is a good start, but it truly becomes non-stick the more you cook with it. Versatile – oven-safe, stovetop-safe (including induction), campfire-safe. A few things to know: It’s heavy. Not a big deal for everyday cooking, but if you have wrist issues or prefer lightweight pans, it’s worth noting. Care is different – no soap in the dishwasher (hand wash only), and you need to dry it thoroughly and rub a thin layer of oil after each use to maintain the seasoning. Overall, this is a fantastic workhorse pan that will last a lifetime if cared for.”

Customer Reviews

Customer Review: “Excellent set! I purchased these after taking leisure classes at the Baton Rouge Culinary Institute, where we were learning Cajun cooking. I noticed these were the types of pans used to prepare some amazing dishes, so I knew I needed a set for myself. The quality is outstanding. The three sizes with matching lids are perfect for searing, slow cooking, and building deep flavor. The silicone handle covers are very practical and make handling the skillets much safer and more comfortable. Most cast iron sets don’t include lids, so I truly appreciate that this one does. The lids fit snugly and seal completely without ventilation gaps, which makes it possible to prepare even more recipes. I’m very happy with my purchase, definitely a great addition to my kitchen!”

Customer Review: “I have two 12\” skillets, one is 6 years old and is awesome. Just picked up my 2nd skillet with lid. If cared for properly, pan will last literally forever and is superior to teflon coated pans. PSA tip: 1) Always preheat your pan for 5 minutes before cooking or until oil coating barely begins to smoke. 2) To clean, buy a stiff brush and NEVER use soap on cast iron (unless you like the taste of soap in your food). 3) For baked on gunk, while pan is hot fill with 1/2 inch hot water and soak for 15 minutes, brush clean and rinse. 4) Dry immediately with kitchen towel or put back on hot burner for a minute. 5) Oil with avocado oil or grapeseed oil using an old bedsheet cut and folded to make a 3\” square pad. 6) Don’t use a paper towel as it leaves paper bits behind. Bedsheet can be used over and over. 7) Never leave a heavy coat of oil, apply super-thin coat, store pan till next use. Thick oil coating becomes gummy.”

Customer Reviews

Customer Review: “The pan is EXTREMELY sturdy, so if someone got one that broke… I really don’t know how that could happen with how solid this thing is lol. They probably just got a faulty product. This pan came pre-sanded on the inside, which makes it nice and smooth and easier to keep things from sticking to it. I disinfected and washed it well, then heated it on the stove to dry. I reapplied oil to season it, and it has worked great with no rust.”

Customer Review: “I purchased this 10” Greater Goods cast iron pan to sear some steaks and for easier clean up. The surface bottom on the pan is smooth but not perfectly smooth as there are some circle rings created from the cutting process. I use low heat for eggs and high heat for searing. The price is pretty good and it will be in the family for generations.”

Customer Reviews

Customer Review: “Saw this on GZ’s Instagram. Fantastic pan. Versatile, cleans easily and looks good. A dome lid of some kind would have been a nice option. Also, it should be noted that the pan instructions say it should not be subject to high heat on a burner (somewhat counterintuitive for cast iron pans).”

Customer Review: “My husband does the cooking and this is the 2nd pan we purchased. All the pluses of a cast iron pan with the ease of cleaning. We’ve gotten a couple of nicks on the edges where the coating got chipped off, so handle with care. No issues on the cooking surface.”

Customer Reviews

Customer Review: “Update: Photo of Skillet Breakfast Dish added. This skillet cooks and bakes great from the very first use! I cook and bake extensively, all of our meals are eaten at home with food I prepare. I love cooking and baking in cast iron, and needed an additional cast iron 8 inch lid. Also wanted to add an 8 inch cast iron skillet with dual loop handles to my cookware, primarily for baking. Lodge is the only cast iron brand I will purchase. Very happy with this 8 inch cast iron skillet! Comes pre-seasoned so good to use as soon as you receive it. Outstanding quality. Heavy duty and durable. Fantastic even heat retention. The dual loop handles are both comfortable and easy to grab. Fantastic for both cooking and baking. Easily fits in my Breville Smart Oven Pro Countertop Oven with plenty of room to spare. The high quality and versatility of this cast iron skillet makes it a terrific value. It will last a lifetime! I highly recommend this product.”

Customer Review: “Great depth and single person size. Can be hand washed, just put oil on a paper towel and wipe it down to protect it and prevent rust. Great for cornish hen, shrimp, veggies, single serve dinner. Use on grill frequently because I don’t have a stove or oven to cook. Double handles are much better for the grill space and two broken wrists. Non-stick spray and high heat grape seed oil are very helpful with cast iron. Doesn’t put off gas like Teflon dangerous to pet birds.”

Complete Buying Guide for Best Iron Frying Pan

Essential Factors We Consider

When choosing the best iron frying pan, key factors include material quality, heat retention, handle design, and seasoning. Cast iron pans are prized for their durability and ability to retain heat evenly, which helps in achieving perfect sears and consistent cooking. The handle should provide a secure grip and ideally be designed to stay cool or accommodate heat-resistant covers. Pre-seasoned pans save time and effort, but understanding how to maintain seasoning is important for longevity. Additionally, consider compatibility with your cooktop, including induction, and whether the pan is oven-safe for versatile recipes.

Budget Planning

Iron frying pans come in a range of prices, from affordable budget options to premium sets. Generally, spending a bit more ensures better craftsmanship and longer-lasting performance. However, many budget-friendly pans offer excellent value and durability, especially from trusted brands like Lodge. Decide what size and features you need, and balance that against how often you cook with cast iron. Investing in a quality pan pays off over time, as cast iron can last a lifetime when cared for properly.

Final Thoughts

Choosing the right iron frying pan involves balancing size, weight, ease of maintenance, and cooking needs. Whether you want a large skillet for family meals or a smaller pan for everyday use, cast iron offers unmatched versatility and durability. Remember that seasoning and proper care are key to maximizing your pan’s nonstick qualities and lifespan. Our top picks cover a wide range of preferences and budgets to help you confidently select the best iron frying pan for your kitchen.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I season my iron frying pan?

A: To season your cast iron pan, clean it thoroughly, then apply a thin layer of vegetable or flaxseed oil to the entire surface. Bake it upside down in the oven at about 450°F for an hour, placing foil below to catch drips. Let it cool inside the oven. Repeat this 2-3 times for a strong nonstick surface.

Q: Can I use soap to clean my cast iron frying pan?

A: It’s best to avoid soap for regular cleaning as it can strip the seasoning layer. Instead, use hot water and a brush or scraper to remove food residue. If soap is necessary, use it sparingly and re-season afterward.

Q: Are iron frying pans safe for induction cooktops?

A: Yes, most cast iron pans are compatible with induction cooktops because cast iron is magnetic. Just ensure your pan has a flat base for even contact.

Q: How do I prevent rust on my iron frying pan?

A: Keep your pan dry after washing and apply a thin layer of oil before storing. Avoid soaking the pan in water, and never leave it wet. Proper seasoning also helps protect against rust.

Q: Why is my cast iron pan sticking?

A: Sticking usually occurs if the seasoning layer is damaged or insufficient. Make sure the pan is well-seasoned, preheated properly, and you use enough cooking fat. Avoid cooking acidic foods until the seasoning is well-established.

Choosing the best iron frying pan can transform your cooking by providing even heat, durability, and versatility. Whether you prefer pre-seasoned convenience or a smooth, organic finish, the options above offer something for every cook. Take your time to consider your kitchen needs, and enjoy the unmatched performance cast iron brings! Ready to upgrade your cookware?
